TEAM MEMBERS
Lance Bradshaw: I had taken metals shop with Mr. Saindon the previous year so I had some experience with the milling machine and the metal lathe.
Brandon Burgess: I have had some metals, welding, design & drawing experience.
Andy Mitchell: I had some experience with electronics before this class. I was an electrician over the summer. I haven't had any experience with metals before this class.
Ethan Pinkham: I have taken a variety of shop classes before with Mr. Duym or Mr. Saindon. I think the class that helped me be prepared for this the most was Powers. I used the lathe and the milling machine in that class before so that helped me out a lot when it came to using it in this class. We also learned a lot about how to plan out how much material we needed to use and how to visualize it.

Gooodavich Robot Description
Our robot has two rear-wheel drive motors. We got them off a John Deere ride on tractor made for kids. Our robot weighs close to 55 lbs, which is a good weight because the motors are built for at least an 80 lb kid. This makes our robot faster than the others in class, but it has lower torque. We bought a linear actuator with a 4” throw, which was originally for our steering. We decided to use a differential drive on the rear-wheels and use the linear actuator for the plow on the front of our robot. The front wheels are now casters because the actuator didn't turn the front wheels fast enough.
Learning Experience

We have learned a lot about welding; different welding techniques, different types of welding such as stick welding, mig welding, and the differences between each one. We have also learned a lot about machining on the milling machine. We understand more about speed and what different speeds are used for and different techniques for creating speed. We have learned how to make a box out of sheet-metal and about electronics and how direct current electrical components work. Finally, we have learned a lot about electric circuits and what voltage, current and ohms are.
Lessons Learned

Our whole team learned that we need a good drawing before we do anything on the project. We learned how the torch works and used it to cut pieces for our robot. We learned how to make a box out of sheet-metal. We have also learned about gel-cell batteries and how to take care of them. This will help, so our robot will have more juice come competition time.
Design:

We learned that it is easier to draw it out our design, then do it and just push through with a set of plans.
